HECS / HELP Repayment Calculator Australia
Estimate your compulsory HECS, HELP, TSL, SSL or SFSS repayment from your annual repayment income. The calculator supports the Australian marginal repayment system for 2025–26 and 2026–27.
This is your repayment income — typically your taxable income plus any reportable super contributions, reportable fringe benefits and net investment losses. It’s the figure the ATO uses to calculate your compulsory repayment.
Includes HELP, HECS-HELP, TSL, SSL and SFSS loans.

How this calculator works
The calculator applies the selected year's compulsory study-loan thresholds to repayment income. Repayment income can include taxable income, reportable super contributions, reportable fringe benefits and net investment losses.
What is included
- Compulsory repayments for HELP, HECS-HELP, TSL, SSL and SFSS loans.
- The marginal repayment system and thresholds for 2025–26 and 2026–27.
- Optional additions to repayment income entered in the detailed settings.
What is not included
- Loan indexation, the outstanding debt balance and how long the debt will take to repay.
- Voluntary repayments, employer withholding amounts and credits already paid to the ATO.
- A final assessment of repayment income by the ATO.
Worked example
With repayment income of $90,000 in 2026–27, the estimated compulsory repayment is $3,071 for the year. This uses the marginal rate on the portion above the year's minimum threshold; it is not a percentage of the entire $90,000.
